LL Lopez

Founder and Teacher

Larry’s journey into movement began as a teenager, studying martial arts under Doc Fai Wong in San Francisco for seven years. At 18, he discovered yoga, which soon became his lifelong path. In 2002, he co-founded Bija Yoga to share the teachings with his community.

Two years later, Larry traveled to Pune, India, where he met Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar for the first time—a transformative encounter with a master who devoted his life to yoga. Larry continued to study with Guruji and his children for the next decade, until Iyengar’s passing in 2014.

With over 26 years of dedicated practice and more than 25 years of teaching experience, Larry remains a committed student of the tradition. He continues to study with esteemed teachers such as Ramanand Patel and Vijay Kapoor, whose guidance deeply informs his practice and teaching.

Larry believes that this ancient knowledge holds a vital place in our modern lives, opening the heart, illuminating the mind, and revealing the deeper self within us all.

As the founder of Bija Yoga Center in San Francisco, Larry teaches yoga not as a lifestyle accessory but as a serious discipline. His approach challenges students to confront their limitations, develop stability of body and mind, and cultivate the intelligence required for genuine practice. For Larry, yoga is not a performance or trend; it is a lifelong study that demands effort, humility, and perseverance.

"See you in class!"
