Kathy Alef
Kathy Alef is a certified teacher of Iyengar
Yoga. She has studied numerous times with yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar as well as his children at
his institute in India. She is a staff member of the two year teacher training program sponsored
by the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. She also teaches weekly public classes for all
levels of students including a specialized weekly class for those with back challenges.
Kathy's
expertise in teaching clearly and precisely, coupled with her compassion, safely guides each
student on their yogic journey.

Robin Attia
Robin is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher and has been teaching since 2001. She is a founder and co-owner of the Bija Yoga Studio which opened its doors in October 2002.
Robin's journey into the practice began with certified Iyengar teacher Kathy Alef, who guided and inspired Robin into a deeper understanding and appreciation for yoga and its discipline. In 2003, Robin graduated from the Advanced Studies Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of SF.
She is fortunate to travel to Pune, India regularly to continue her studies with the Iyengar family. In S.F. she continues her studies with Senior Iyengar teacher Manouso Manos.
Through daily dedicated practice, Robin has learned the value of the art and science of yoga.
This is what she shares in her classes, coupled with enthusiasm, joy, clarity and integrity.

Chad Balch
Chad Balch embarked on his yoga journey in 1988. He is a graduate of the Iyengar
Yoga Institute of San Francisco teacher training program, and has studied at the California Yoga Center and the
Abode of Iyengar Yoga. He studied with the Iyengars in Pune, India in 1994.
Chad loves to explore and share the
benefits of focused attention to body, mind, and breath. He has taught in corporate settings in Silicon Valley,
and draws from his first-hand experience with the counterbalancing effects of yoga in the context of high-stress
work environments. Chad’s two daughters bring him great joy and instruct him in the many-faceted yoga of
parenting and the power of a full breath.

Cynthia Bates
Cynthia Bates is a yoga teacher and nutrition
counselor who works with individuals to help find balance and health in their lives so they
can accomplish their goals and transform their lives.
She is a graduate of the Advanced Studies program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco and a
student of the Bauman College Holistic Nutrition program.
Cynthia Bates started practicing yoga in 1999 as a respite from the gym but soon found a deeper
spiritual calling. She draws inspiration for her practice and teaching from the Yoga Sutras,
the Bhagavad Gita and the B.K.S. Iyengar – attempting to find equanimity and poise within difficult
poses and an opening of the heart through the breath.

Ryan deMatteo
Ryan DeMatteo maintains a steady pursuit of Yoga's mystery and
has immersed himself in the study of yoga postures and the philosophies of India.
Ryan is a student of Ramanand Patel and JinSung. He spent six
months last year traveling India and studying under the Iyengars. He is influenced by the life
and work of both J. Krishnamurti and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. Ryan knows that a personal
experience of yoga is the only possibility.
